Come together virtually to celebrate the life and achievements of one of our nation’s greatest heroes, Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This zoom registration will be used for all three events listed below, you can join at anytime!

12-1pm Authors in Conversation | FREEDOM! The Story of the Black Panther Party
A discussion of FREEDOM! THE STORY OF THE BLACK PANTHER PARTY with authors Jetta Grace Martin and Waldo Martin, moderated by Ula Taylor. This new book, aimed at Young Adult Readers, tells the story of the revolutionary Black Panther Party -- meticulously researched, thrillingly written and filled with incredible photographs throughout.

2-3:15pm Art As We See It | Civil Rights Through Art and Music
MoAD Docents discuss the American Civil Rights Era through the lens of publicly accessible art and music. Art as We See It is a departure from traditional museum docent tours. If you haven’t experienced this one-of-a-kind program, you won’t want to miss out! We invite you to join this informal conversation via chat as we look at this seminal period in American history through visual and audio art forms.

3:30-4pm Family Art Workshop | Silhouettes
MoAD invites you to join a 30-minute guided silhouette shading workshop.
This workshop is ideal for ages 5 and up, and you do not have to possess any artistic skills to participate. For inspiration, we will look at selected works of Jacob Lawrence, Elizabeth Catlett, Romare Bearden, and Kara Walker, and learn the basics of shading and blending to explore value in outline drawing.
For the workshop, you will need the following
• A dull pencil
• An eraser
• A pair of scissors
• Magazine or newspaper with images to cut out
• Two sheets of plain white paper (8.5” x 11” or larger)
• Two Q-tips or cotton swabs or a piece of paper towel
